Jimmy has had a very normal education, but it was a solid education and IT has never forgotten his roots. I felt he was in a situation where he could raise money for people who use their position in the entertainment world, and managed to do that. "

David Hamilton, DJ

"We were in collaboration with Radio 1 in the 70's and the station was full of eccentric characters, but it was certainly the most striking of all," Hamilton told BBC 5 Live.

"One of the key things Jimmy was that he was a man of the people. He knew the public was well aware of his audience. I think the general public for his family.

"Probably of all the DJs, I worked, I knew less than anyone else. It was much to himself. Do not drink so it was not the kind of man to the bar and have a bevvy with you."

'I know Jimmy Savile for over 50 years, which is a hell of a lot of time to know someone, and have never been a direct conversation with him very carefully, because it always had a sort of invisible shield up.

"He likes to keep his distance from everyone, even his friends. He trick on his way out of something if you do not want to answer ... I think probably puzzle is a good word for her."
